Bowtie Risk Analysis

Bowtie risk analysis is a powerful risk assessment tool that can be used to assess, communicate and maintain effective risk management. As its name suggests, it is shaped like a bowtie which, in turn, creates a clear understanding of both proactive and reactive risk management controls. It creates of an overview of  complex analysis in a simple visual diagram.

REHSQ used bowtie analysis to understand the risks associated with the construction and operation of a thirty metre tower crane on a construction site adjacent to a busy helipad. We initially undertook a safety feasibility and regulatory study of the project to establish guidelines and collaboration from all parties.

REHSQ then conducted risk assessments and facilitated threat and consequence scenarios, developed incident sequences and outcomes and subsequently completed post-mitigation risk assessments.

The results of our analysis were presented in a set of Bowtie diagrams which allowed the client to assess the findings in a visual format. Our results could then be cross-referenced with the Client’s Risk Register.
