Although most Coronavirus restrictions have now been removed in England and Wales (regulations and guidance are slightly different in Scotland and Northern Ireland), infection rates continue to fluctuate, and vigilance is still required. Below is a summary of the latest guidance issued by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to help keep workplaces safe and prevent Covid-19 spreading:
- Have good ventilation in your work area. Open windows if safe to do so. Keep doors open if you can but not fire doors. Your employer should ensure that poorly ventilated areas are improved.
- Wash your hands frequently using soap and water or use hand sanitiser. Try not to touch your face.
- Clean your workplace. Increase how often and how thoroughly your workplace is cleaned including:
- Frequently touched surfaces
- Surfaces not normally cleaned
- Other controls to help reduce transmission:
- Using barriers or screens between people
- Staggering work starting and finishing times
- Staggering meal and break times to prevent overcrowding
- Asking people to work side by side rather than face to face
- Grouping work teams so they consistently work together
- Using one-way systems through buildings
